Wellmont CVA Heart Institute, located in Kingsport, Tennessee, is looking for a PA to join its CT Surgery team.
Responsibilities include triage, assessment, and coordination of care for CV surgical patients assisting the WCS surgeons in areas of clinical practice under direct/indirect supervision as appropriate for his/her training and experience. Responsibilities include first assist on cardiac and thoracic surgical cases; harvesting veins (traditionally or endoscopically); making and closing incisions under direct supervision of surgeon; removal of chest tubes, Swan-Ganz catheters, pacemaker wires, drains, sutures/staples, and intra-aortic balloon pumps under direct supervision, assist with thoracenteses and chest tube placement and instill TPA in chest tubes; provide wound care under indirect supervision of surgeons; participate in cost containment and quality improvement activities and gathering of data; participate in divisional research activities; act as a liaison between surgeons and patients/families; work with surgeons in the office clinic setting for pre-op and post-op patient care; participate in call rotation with other surgery staff; work directly with surgeons when rounding on patients to include entering verbal and telephone orders; assist with progress notes and discharge orders (signed by surgeon); coordinate transfer of patients to and from outlying facilities; perform initial evaluation and triage of consults and presentations to surgeons; application and management of wound vacuum; and scheduling hospital procedures/surgeries along with preadmission testing.
Successful candidate with hold Master’s Degree in a certified PA program along with NCCPA board certification.
Prefer minimum of 2 years experience with 1 year of surgery , preferably cardiac and/or thoracic surgery. Requires active state license, valid DEA, and current BLS training.
