Nuvance Health is seeking an experienced full-time Surgical Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner to join our long established teaching Surgical PA Residency program and growing Surgical Advanced Practitioner Service at Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, Connecticut. Norwalk Hospital is located about 50 miles outside of New York City in lower Fairfield County Connecticut. This is a great opportunity to have an active role supervising our Surgical Residents and work on the floors. Physician Assistant candidates can also assist in the OR across a wide range of surgical sub-specialties.

This is an employed position with Nuvance Health Medical Practice. We offer a competitive compensation package, including comprehensive benefits as well as allowances for CMEs and Dues expenses. This position includes overnight and weekend in house call.

Surgical service coverage includes general surgery in addition to Thoracic, Vascular, Urology, Colorectal, Bariatrics, Plastic & Reconstructive surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Gynecological surgery, and the SICU. Specific responsibilities include:

• History and physical examinations
• Pre- and post-operative care of patients
• Active participation on the trauma team
• Participation in the education and hands-on training of PA residents and PA students and medical students during surgical rotations at Norwalk Hospital
• OR assisting (Physician Assistant only)

Job Requirements:

• Baccalaureate degree.
• Graduate of an approved PA Program and a post-graduate training program in surgery or at least one year surgical or equivalent work experience or a minimum formal education of Master Degree (APRN, MSN, DNP, FNP or AGNP) Nurse Practitioner with previous inpatient experience with surgical patients.
• Knowledge of surgical critical care, preferred.
• Current Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or Board Certified Nurse Practitioner.
• Physician Assistant licensure or Connecticut State of CT RN and APRN license.
• CT State Controlled Substance and Federal DEA Registration.
• ATLS, ACLS & BLS certification are required. ATLS training will be scheduled as necessary.
• Ability to work 40 control hours. Hours are 7:30 am – 4 pm Monday – Friday plus availability for overnight and weekend in house call
