Fairview Northland Medical Center Hospitalist Team, which currently consists of four physicians, seeks a Physician Assistant or Family Nurse Practitioner to join their Hospitalist team. Hospitalists round on inpatients and patients on Observation status, provide consult services to Surgical colleagues in the hospital and take un-assigned patients from the Emergency Room.

Typical day shift workload will include rounding, admits, and consultation for co-management of surgical patients as requested. Typical night shift workload will include admits, cross-cover, and preparation for discharge during overnight shifts, with occasional discharges or rounding on overnight shifts.  Overnight provider is also expected to provide telephone coverage for calls from Nursing home nurses for Nursing home residents who are covered by Fairview Geriatric services.  Provider is expected to be competent in management of inpatients including children, healthy newborns, adults and co-management of critically ill adults with a Physician.

Practice Details:

• Current average hospitalist census: 13 per day (expected to grow)
• Admit approximately 3-6 patients per overnight shift
• Collaborate with local hospitalist Physician (on-site during days/evenings, available by pager call overnight), TeleICU Critical Care physicians (located at Fairview Southdale hospital), and local ER Physician who is present on-site 24 hours/day.
• Patients consist of 90% adults, 10% pediatrics (about 100-120 pediatric hospitalizations per year).
• Anticipated work schedule: 4 week rotation working every other week alternating between a week of consecutive 9 am to 7 pm shifts, then a week off, then a week of consecutive 9 pm to 7 am shifts, then a week off.  Schedule is subject to change over time.

Position Qualifications:

A qualified PA candidate will be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Be eligible or have a current PA license with prescriptive authority through the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice. Be certified through the NCCPA and meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges. Ability to obtain and/or maintain DEA certification for the State of Minnesota.  Maintain certification in ACLS, PALS (or equivalent), and NRP. Prior hospitalist experience is preferred.

A qualified NP candidate will be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and formal Family Nurse Practitioner training program. Have a current Minnesota APRN license and be approved or eligible by the Minnesota Board of Nursing for prescription writing privileges. Be eligible or certified through ANCC / AANP and meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges. Ability to obtain and/or maintain DEA certification for the State of Minnesota. Maintain certification in ACLS, PALS (or equivalent), and NRP.  Prior hospitalist experience is preferred.
