Chief, Surgical Oncology Opening – Norwalk Hospital, Western Connecticut Health – Fairfield County, CT (50 miles from New York City)
Western Connecticut Medical Group is seeking a Chief of Surgical Oncology at Norwalk Hospital to join a network integrated program with primary responsibilities at Norwalk Hospital with additional clinical care and teaching responsibilities at Danbury Hospital, with potential leadership responsibilities throughout our Connecticut region. The incoming surgeon will focus on developing a HPB and Surgical oncology program at Norwalk Hospital including GI oncology, melanoma and sarcoma. Norwalk Hospital is located in Fairfield County, Connecticut, about 50 miles outside New York City.
Western Connecticut Medical Group is part of our newly formed network, Nuvance Health, which spans seven hospitals across the Hudson Valley region of New York State and Western Connecticut. The Connecticut region has 2 HBP and GI surgical oncologists, working collaboratively with our surgical oncologists in the New York region. The incoming Chief will be an integral part of the overall strategy for the Nuvance Cancer Program, led by surgical oncologist, Dr. Margo Shoup.
The Cancer Program at Norwalk Hospital has a unique collaboration with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center that integrates MSK medical and radiation oncologists and care practices with the program at Norwalk. We also have a team of subspecialized oncologists and gastroenterologists and an NRG membership. The Whittingham Cancer Center at Norwalk Hospital is home to the cancer outpatient clinics, linear accelerators and chemo-infusion suites. In addition, nationally renowned cancer researchers are based in the Danbury and Norwalk sites, offering a robust clinical trials portfolio, including phase I trials, and strong collaboration with PhD’s, physician scientists and dedicated research coordinators.
The ideal candidate will be board certified in surgery with fellowship training in surgical oncology and a desire to develop and lead an integrated surgical oncology program at Norwalk. A minimum of 3 years of experience with demonstrated leadership skills is preferred.
The Chief of HPB/ Surgical Oncology at Norwalk Hospital shall be responsible for the overall development and ongoing quality of services for the evaluation and treatment of complex liver and pancreas disorders and GI malignancies as well as develop a melanoma and sarcoma program. Services will span benign and malignant diseases and primary and metastatic cancer therapies. The Chief will establish standards of practice to ensure optimal patient care throughout the System and will continually evaluate and improve care delivery processes and outcomes.
The Chief will have a dual reporting relationship to the Connecticut regional leader of the cancer program for Nuvance Health and to the system leader of surgical oncology. The Chief will spend approximately ten to twenty percent of their time in this leadership role while growing a Surgical Oncology practice in Norwalk.
