Chair of Surgery - Danbury, Connecticut (60 miles from New York City)
Nuvance Health is seeking a Chair of Surgery at Danbury Hospital in Fairfield County, Connecticut. The ideal candidate will be board certified in general surgery with subspecialty fellowship training and at least 8-10 years of post-fellowship experience and 5 years in a leadership role. This is an excellent leadership opportunity to join a busy and growing program that is part of a larger 7 hospital network. Danbury, Connecticut is located about 60 miles northeast of New York City and near the border of Westchester and Putnam Counties in New York State.
The Chair of Surgery will report to the Network Chair of Surgery and the Vice President for Medical Affairs (VPMA) of Danbury and New Milford Hospitals. The Chair of Surgery provides clinical and strategic leadership for all components of the Department at both Danbury and New Milford Hospital campuses and ensures the highest standard of excellence in the care and safety of all surgical patients. The Chair also provides supervision and direction of the day to day operations of the department and the operating rooms. He/she will establish performance targets for the areas of responsibility and manage the performance of the staff in meeting those targets. We have a free standing 6 year general surgical residency which includes a year of research. Teaching medical students and residents is an important part of the program.

Danbury Hospital has 371 beds and is a Level II Trauma Center with approximately 70,000 ED visits per year. As a teaching hospital, we are affiliated with the University of Vermont College of Medicine, Ross University, American University of the Caribbean, and Yale School of Medicine. New Milford Hospital is an 85-bed community hospital, serving the residents of the greater Litchfield County area in Connecticut for almost 100 years. Our employed Medical Group includes 900+ physicians and advanced practice providers, serving a geographically broad region throughout Western Connecticut and eastern New York.
Danbury, Connecticut, located in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains and on the border of New York State, is about 60 miles northeast of New York City and 60 miles west of Hartford, CT. As part of the greater NY metropolitan area, the city of Danbury enjoys both proximity to New York City culture and access to a wide array of outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, fishing and boating in state and regional parks and preserves. Danbury is home to Western Connecticut State University as well as a number of historical sites, museums, theaters and art galleries. Surrounded by a number of quaint, scenic towns, the area offers a variety of excellent housing and school options. Boston, New York City, New Haven and Hartford are easily accessible via train and car.
