Providence Regional Graduate Medical Education, in partnership with Providence Senior Health, is seeking a full-time geriatrician to be a senior clinician educator in geriatric medicine for our graduate medical residency programs in family medicine (FM) and internal medicine (IM). In this role, you will lead geriatric medicine education and training for the Providence FM and IM residency programs across three Providence hospitals in the Portland metropolitan area, with support to the FM program in Hood River. The Providence residency programs have a 65-year history of teaching excellence. These programs train 60 IM and 30 FM residents each year, providing community-based, academically-oriented curriculum and clinical experiences across Providence hospitals, ambulatory, and community residential settings. You will join a growing geriatric care community supported by our Senior Health Program. Senior Health delivers multiple services to support Providence in establishing age-friendly practices and programs and has been recognized by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) as a Pioneer Age-Friendly Healthcare System. Senior Health supported programs include a robust falls prevention program, a dementia Care Ecosystem in collaboration with UCSF, and a four-week Geriatric Mini-Fellowship to upskill primary care providers across Providence. Priorities for this role: This position will champion organizational efforts to assure that each of our residents receives a consistent and solid foundation in geriatric competencies necessary for superb care for older adult patients across all care settings. It is a priority that our residents understand and practice the 4Ms of Age-Friendly health care: Medication, Mentation, Mobility and What Matters. The Regional Chair of Geriatrics Education will lead curricular development, teach and precept residents in clinic, provide didactics (in person and virtual), coach and mentor residents, and lead faculty development around geriatric care. Additionally, this role will foster regional relationships to assure consistent, holistic, comprehensive clinical experiences for our residents. The residency programs create opportunities for home and facility visits, inpatient teaching, and other specialized geriatric clinical experiences. We encourage collaboration with other clinical disciplines in this educational endeavor. This educator will be a core faculty member within the residency programs.
