Job Description

St. David’s Healthcare is seeking a hematology/oncology bone marrow transplant physician to join our team in Austin, Texas.

Qualified Candidates:
- Board certified/board eligible hematology/oncology bone marrow transplant
- Join a team of three physicians and four APP's
- Evaluate and treat post-transplant complications including acute and chronic GVHD, infections, organ damage, relapse and understand the management of patients who are on chronic immunosuppression
- Proficiently perform HSCT specific procedures including but not limited to bone marrow biopsy and aspiration, bone marrow harvests, lumbar punctures, skin biopsy and stem cell infusion.
- Communicate effectively with supervising physicians, other PAs/NPs, referring providers, consultants and the transplant team regarding the clinical status of stem cell transplant patients
- Remain familiar with the current medical literature in stem cell transplantation, including the current controversies and the public-health and economic ramifications of stem cell transplantation
- Participate in efforts to maintain public awareness and need for donor registration
- Educate and mentor new PAs/NPs interested in pursuing a career in stem cell transplantation
- Serve as a resource to other health care professionals training and/or rotating through the stem cell transplant unit. Trainees may include NP/PA students, NP/PA new hires, residents, fellows, RN students/RNs

About The BMT Program and St. David’s South Austin Medical Center:
- The BMT program has a dedicated state-of-the-art BMT transplant unit, including HEPA filtration, an outpatient clinic, and photopheresis service
- FACT Accredited BMT program that performs autologous and allogenic transplants for blood cancers
- St. David’s is in partnership with Texas Transplant Institute, the first FACT accredited program, Texas Oncology and Sarah Cannon Blood Cancer Network
- The blood and marrow stem cell transplant program was established at Methodist Hospital in 1993 and expanded to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center in 2013 to establish a comprehensive adult transplant program in Austin. The two sites operate together as one program by sharing common quality management processes, policies, procedures, physicians, nurse competencies and personnel
- St. David’s South Austin Medical Center offers a Very Immunosuppressed Patient (VIP) Care Program, the only program in the region that focuses on promptly identifying and treating immunocompromised oncology patients arriving through the cancer clinic or the Emergency Room. The program provides special training to ER and clinic staff to identify and address the unique needs of chemotherapy patients

St. David’s South Austin Medical Center is an acute care facility with 300 beds, offering a range of complex specialties and subspecialties
- Nationally accredited oncology program with the area’s only adult bone marrow transplant program
- Level II trauma center to treat the most severely injured and critical patients
- Comprehensive cardiac program
- Two full-service, freestanding emergency centers in the communities of Bee Cave and Bastrop
