We are seeking a full-time, board certified internal medicine physician with prior leadership experience to join our team. As the facility medical director for St. David's Medical Center, you'll guide an established hospitalist team, shape clinical operations, and drive high-quality patient care in a collaborative, community-focused environment. St. David's Medical Center in Austin, Texas, the flagship program within the St. David's Health System. This is an established program between TeamHealth and HCA.
St. David's Medical Center is an acute care facility that has 426 beds and a 64-bed rehab. During the day shift (7am-7pm) there are a total of 8 physicians working; 7 rounding physicians seeing 20-22 patients and 1 admitter physician with 1 dedicated APC handling an average of 16 admissions. There is 1 swing physician and 1 APC (10am-10pm) handling 10-12 admissions. At night (7pm-7am), we have 1 nocturnist physician and 1 APC who handle around 12-15 admissions + 160-180 cross coverage beds. There is a newly formed GME IM residency program that will have residents assisting on admissions in both the day and nighttime capacity. There is full specialty support in place as well as a rapid response team to handle codes and procedures. The current EMR in place at all St. David's locations is Meditech.
Key Responsibilities- Clinical leadership: provide clinical oversight and mentorship to hospitalists and other medical professionals within the department
- Quality improvement: develop and implement quality initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes, satisfaction, and operational efficiency
- Strategic planning: collaborate with hospital leadership in long-term planning, workforce development, and resource management
- Team development: facilitate ongoing professional development, training, and performance evaluations of hospitalist staff
- Collaboration: foster positive relationships with nursing, case management, and specialty service lines to promote interdisciplinary care
Qualifications- MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
- Board certified in internal medicine
- Minimum of 2-3 years of clinical leadership experience in hospital medicine
- Previous leadership or administrative experience in hospital medicine is preferred but not required
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
