Job Description

The Virginia Tech Carilion (VTC) Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine is a strong and growing presence in regional healthcare. Our Department is based in Roanoke Virginia and has clinical, educational, and research sites throughout the region. Our Faculty are based in Roanoke at the Carilion Clinic (a Top 100 Hospital), in Radford at the Carilion New River Valley Hospital, at the Salem VAMC, and at the Catawba Hospital. We are part of the VTC School of Medicine, one of the newest and most innovative medical schools in the nation. We work closely with the VTC Research Institute, headed by the neuroscientist Michael Friedlander PhD, that has over $70 Million of current funding. The Department is focused on the extensive development and implementation of patient-centered research utilizing measurement-based care.

We are currently seeking these Faculty Positions:

Psychiatric Intensivist:

We seek a psychiatrist at any seniority level whose primary focus is inpatient psychiatry. Join our team with a primary work location at the New River Valley/St. Albans location at the Carilion New River Valley Hospital with 36 inpatient adult beds. This position offers opportunities for educational and research development abound. Board certification in General Adult Psychiatry or a Subspecialty required.

Addictions Psychiatrist:

We seek a psychiatrist at any seniority level to join our Addictions team. Our program is led by William Rea MD and already includes three Addictions-boarded Psychiatrists. We are currently involved in clinical efforts targeting inpatient and ambulatory addiction treatment and collaborative efforts in specialty areas such as pain management, infectious disease, and obstetrics and gynecology. We have multiple trials underway in collaboration with the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute (VTCRI) Addiction Recovery Research Center headed by Warren Bickel PhD. This position offers teaching service development and extraordinary collaborative research opportunities. Development of Addictions Medicine and Addictions Psychiatry Fellowship is underway. Board certification in General Adult Psychiatry or a Subspecialty required; Addiction Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine board certification preferred.

Telepsychiatrist:

We seek a psychiatrist at any seniority level to join our Telehealth program. We are currently involved in multiple clinical efforts targeting our support of Carilion’s growing network of six hospitals and 45 patient centered medical homes across 240 miles of western Virginia through synchronous and asynchronous models. These efforts are supported in part by $750,000 of grants to develop and implement innovative care delivery initiatives. Opportunities exist to develop integrated undergraduate and graduate medical education in these efforts. Board certification in General Adult Psychiatry or a Subspecialty required; previous experience with Telehealth preferred.
