The Department of Radiation Oncology is currently accepting applications for a Clinical track physicist to serve as Chief Physicist in the department. Rank to be determined based on experience and background. The Chief Physicist will set physics priorities, lead in equipment selection and commissioning, and partner with a dedicated team of professionals that includes physicians, dosimetrists, therapists, and nurses and work under the direction of the Interim Chair of Radiation Oncology at the Tulane Cancer Center Medical Director. Responsibilities will include 1) supervising and checking individual patient treatments from simulation through treatment delivery, 2) assisting planning of special treatment procedures and complete special physics consults, 3) supervising, confirming and documenting quality assurance for all equipment, 4) maintaining and updating QA policies and procedures for all radiation oncology equipment and computer systems in compliance with federal regulatory, Tulane University Radiation Safety Office and American College of Radiology (ACR) guidelines; and 4) and supervise radiation dose calculations.
Tulane University School of Medicine is a center for education, research and public service. The Department of Radiation Oncology is currently undergoing installation of a GE wide-bore CT simulator with 4D capability, and a fully equipped True Beam. This equipment is paired with a Varian Trilogy accelerator with cone-beam imaging, a new Oncentra HDR unit and Eclipse planning system. We offer standard 3D and IMRT external beam treatments, stereotactic body radiotherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, gynecologic brachytherapy, total body irradiation, and total skin electron therapy.
Qualifications
This opportunity requires a Board Certified Ph.D. candidate with a minimum of three years of clinical experience in all aspects of clinical radiation oncology and a vision to further the Department’s mission of providing excellent patient care and research. This position will report directly to the Interim Chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology and will involve a clinical faculty position at Tulane University School of Medicine, with a rank commensurate with experience.
