Position Summary: The Division of Psychology and Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Sciences at the University of Kansas Medical Center is seeking applications for a HEALTH PSYCHOLOGIST with a background in Advanced Heart Therapies to serve patients and families with mental and behavioral health concerns pre and post operatively. The individual select for the position will join a rapidly expanding Psychology Division of 19 psychologists.
Required Qualifications: Doctoral Degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited clinical program. Must be licensed, or license-eligible and able to quickly be licensed, to practice as an independent provider (LP) in the state of KS. At least two years of supervised experience (including internship/post-doctoral fellowship). Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to all aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications: Strong preference will be given to those applicants with experience in the diagnostic assessment and treatment of patients undergoing evaluation, treatment, or recovery from advanced heart therapy interventions and co-occurring psychological concerns; leading psycho-educational treatment groups for patients and families; and working collaboratively with other medical professionals and social service agencies is preferred. Research experience and publications are desirable.

Job Duties:
- Provide assessment, psychotherapy, counseling and support for patients who are pre- and post- operative with co/morbid psychological issues seen in the KU Hospital Advanced Heart Therapy clinics.
- Provide brief evidenced based psychotherapy interventions in both individual and group format with patients and families
- Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, social workers, liaison psychiatrists, and other medical personnel as part of a comprehensive care team
- Provide pre-surgical psychological evaluations for medical interventions
- Maintain a productive clinical practice to generate departmental income to offset cost basis
- Work effectively with other clinical services and outside collaborating facilities to facilitate interactions and harmony in the Department and effective continuum of patient care and follow up
- Maintain flexibility regarding clinical assignments to further the best interests of the Department as a whole
- The psychologist will be expected to participate in Division and Departmental activities, faculty meetings, and other health system and medical school committees as assigned, and Grand Rounds
- Collaborate in clinical activities and research with other faculty, continuous performance improvement, etc.
- Provide opportunities for training with the APA accredited psychology intern program, post-doctoral fellows, and psychiatry residents as appropriate
