Private school facilities include Living Word Christian Academy and Trinity Christian Academy. University and vocational facilities in the area include Howard Payne University, Texas State Technical College, Central Texas Commercial College and Ranger Junior College. Several other universities and junior colleges are within easy commuting distance.

The area boasts numerous outdoor recreational opportunities. Lake Brownwood State Park encompasses a 7,300-acre body of water featuring 538 acres of recreational offerings such as swimming, fishing, boating, hiking trails, camping areas, nature study opportunities, shelters, cabins and much more. If you prefer to be a little closer to nature, visit the nearby Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge for hiking, biking and bird watching. Golf is also popular at both our private and public courses. Brownwood Country Club features a 6,280-yard layout on Bermuda grass that offers a par of 72 and a slope rating of 125.
