Denton is located just 45 minutes north of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex on Interstate 35. As of the 2010 US Census, its population was 113,383, making it the 27th most populous city in Texas and the 11th largest city in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
Education: Denton Independent School District provides the public primary and secondary educational system in the city, with three high schools, one alternative high school, and primary schools. The University of North Texas in Denton is the flagship of the UNT System, which also includes the UNT Health Science Center in Ft. Worth, UNT at Dallas, and a future law school. Texas Woman's University is a public university that enrolls more than 13,000 undergraduates and graduates (both male and female). TWU’s College of Nursing is the largest in TX and the 11th largest in the US, and the school's nursing doctoral program is the largest in the world.
Entertainment: With a population more than 118,000 not including a student population of more than 40,000, Denton is far from rolling up the sidewalks at night. In cooperation with various organizations, local universities and the Parks and Recreation Department, Denton hosts many festivals and events throughout the calendar year. Outdoor Recreation: Lake Lewisville is one of the largest lakes in north Texas spanning 29,000 acres with 233 miles of shoreline, great for fishing, skiing, relaxing, and recreational boating. There are six marinas and two restaurants on the lake, numerous parks and plenty of nice beaches, campgrounds, hiking and biking trails, golf courses, and other outdoor activities. Ray Roberts Lake State Park offers picnicking, camping, hiking, biking, horseback riding, rollerblading, swimming on a beach area (unsupervised), boating and fishing.
